Department of Biological Applications & Technology
The Department of Biological Applications and Technologies of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Ioannina welcomed its first students in 2000. It was recently strengthened by the completion of a state-of-the-art building with a total area of 3,500 sq.m., and aspires to become a significant center for high-quality academic education as well as for the advancement of the science of Biology and its related applications.
The Department of Biological Applications and Technologies is dedicated to the study and advancement of all branches of Biology and, more broadly, to the life sciences. Its mission is twofold: on the one hand, to support cutting-edge research, and on the other, to transmit knowledge to young scientists. Through its diverse and evolving educational activities, the Department aims to equip students with the tools necessary to: contribute effectively to the proper management and protection of the environment and biodiversity, improve human health and quality of life, advance existing industrial applications, and develop new, more environmentally friendly technologies.
The Department of Biological Applications and Technologies is the only university department in the life sciences in Greece that offers a single, integrated postgraduate-level degree (Level 7 - Integrated Master), according to the National and European Qualifications Framework, upon completion of its five-year Undergraduate Study Program.
