The Department of Nursing of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Ioannina was established in 2018. As of October 2018, all staff and students from the esteemed Department of Nursing of the former Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Epirus were integrated into it.

The vision of the Department of Nursing at the University of Ioannina is to produce nursing professionals with a high level of training and skills, who are inspired by the human ideals of compassion, care, and equality. Graduates should be able to respond to and adapt across diverse scientific and professional environments, using critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the application of evidence-based research in practice.

The core philosophy and overall structure of the Department's curriculum combine modern nursing and care theories with contemporary nursing practice, aiming to support and guide students as they develop from learners into autonomous nursing professionals, capable of practicing the nursing profession at all levels of the healthcare system.
